about

Eilean (otherwise known as Alexa Lefler) is a second generation Filipino and analog film photographer located in the US and travels the country full-time in a converted van. She finds herself irresistibly drawn towards the grandeur of the outdoors, seeking solace and inspiration beyond the confines of stationary rooms and static lifestyles and resting in a feeling of connection to the rhythm and cadence of the natural world.

Her work explores the inherent relationship between humans and nature, a bond as old as humanity itself. Alexa believes that parallels can be found between the two entities, and she seeks to uncover these commonalities through her work. Her process is deeply introspective, often becoming a journey of self-discovery and a narrative of subconscious/untold feelings. Oftentimes, she is unaware of the story her work is eluding to until after the photograph is taken, continuing a process of revelation that oftentimes surprises herself.

Her work is described as melancholic, wistful, and quiet. Her images invite contemplation and introspection and encourages viewers to immerse themselves in the world she captures to derive their own narratives from her work.

Film is her medium of choice out of an appreciation for the authenticity and soulfulness it brings to her photographs. She believes that film creates a unique, ghostly fingerprint on each photo because the light that is captured also captures the essence of the soul and person being photographed. This lends a level of depth and intimacy to her photos, making them not just images, but portals to the moments and emotions they encapsulate.
